FAQs

Every organisation has different communications priorities. The Prominence Collective works flexibly with businesses, charities and experts, providing support across individual specialisms, several connected areas or a broader communications remit. Here are answers to some of the questions we are most often asked about working together.

Press Conference Setup

“The strongest client relationships start with understanding what you want to achieve and where communications can make the greatest difference. From there, we can provide the right strategy, expertise and support to make it happen.”

Edwin Buckley
Founder
The Prominence Collective

Who do you work with?

We work with businesses, charities, founders, senior leaders, experts, public figures and campaigners across a wide range of sectors. Our experience includes healthcare, charity and social impact, professional services, education, technology, travel, construction, hospitality, lifestyle and consumer organisations.

We work with established organisations as well as growing businesses, start-ups and individuals building their profile. What matters is having a clear objective or opportunity where strong communications can make a difference.

What can you support us with?

Our work covers communications strategy and positioning, PR and media relations, integrated campaigns, thought leadership and profile development, content and social media, stakeholder engagement, partnerships and collaborations, reputation and issues management, and events.

Clients can work with us on one specific area, several connected areas or a broader communications programme. We shape the scope around what needs to be achieved rather than requiring clients to buy services they do not need.

Can you manage our wider communications?

Yes. We provide fractional and retained communications support for organisations that need experienced communications leadership without necessarily recruiting a senior in-house role or expanding their existing team.

This can involve setting communications priorities, advising senior leaders and coordinating activity across strategy, campaigns, PR, content, digital, stakeholders, partnerships and reputation. We can take responsibility for a broad communications remit or concentrate our time on the areas where additional senior expertise and capacity will have the greatest value.

Can we work with you on just one area of communications?

Absolutely. Not every client needs support across multiple disciplines. We can be brought in specifically for PR and media relations, communications strategy, content and social media strategy, thought leadership, stakeholder communications, partnerships or another defined area.

The scope can remain focused or develop over time if other communications priorities or opportunities emerge. This gives clients access to expertise where they need it while retaining other communications activity internally or through existing partners.

Can you develop and deliver a campaign from scratch?

Yes. We can take an initial objective, issue or opportunity and develop the campaign from concept through to delivery. This can include research and insight, audiences, positioning, campaign concept and identity, messaging, creative direction and the overall communications strategy.

Depending on the campaign, delivery can then incorporate PR, digital and social content, thought leadership, lived-experience storytelling, public affairs, stakeholder communications, partnerships and influencer engagement. Our experience includes developing national campaigns that have reached mainstream audiences and received industry recognition.

Can you support a specific launch or project?

Yes. Alongside ongoing relationships, we also undertake defined projects with clear objectives, scope and timescales. These can include organisation, product and service launches, profile-building programmes, communications strategies, awareness initiatives, stakeholder projects and other specific priorities.

We agree what the project needs to achieve and build the communications approach around it. This can involve one specialism or combine several disciplines where doing so will strengthen the work.

Do you provide PR and media relations?

Yes. PR and media relations is a major part of our work. We develop stories, campaigns, commentary and other editorial opportunities for businesses, charities and experts across national, regional, consumer, business, trade, lifestyle and specialist media.

Our work has secured hundreds of opportunities across television, radio, newspapers, magazines, online media and podcasts, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky, The Guardian, Daily Mail, The Big Issue and more. Support can be provided as a standalone PR brief or as part of a wider communications programme.

Can you raise the profile of our founder, CEO or experts?

Yes. We help founders, executives and subject-matter experts build credible profiles around their expertise, experience and perspectives. This starts with identifying what they should be known for and the conversations where their contribution can add genuine value.

Activity can include thought leadership, expert commentary, opinion pieces, interviews, guest articles, podcasts, speaking opportunities and social media content. We can develop profile-building as a dedicated programme or integrate it into the organisation's wider communications strategy.

Can you help with content and social media?

Yes. We develop content and social media strategies, messaging, campaign content, thought leadership, executive and founder content, blogs, newsletters, website content and wider digital storytelling.

Support can range from developing the strategy, themes and content roadmap to creating content as part of a wider campaign or communications programme. We can also work alongside clients who manage their own channels, providing strategic direction, messaging and content support where it is needed.

Can you help with partnerships, influencers and ambassadors?

Yes. We identify and develop relationships with businesses, charities, influencers, celebrities and other organisations where there is a clear strategic opportunity.

Our experience includes commercial partnerships, charity collaborations, ambassador programmes, influencer engagement, strategic introductions and purpose-led campaigns. We consider relevance, credibility, audience and shared objectives rather than pursuing partnerships simply for visibility.

Do you support stakeholder engagement and reputation?

Yes. We support communications with communities, customers, supporters, partners, funders, policymakers and other important stakeholders, alongside wider organisational positioning and reputation.

Our experience includes stakeholder strategy and materials, public affairs and policy communications, open letters, community engagement, public-interest campaigns, issues planning and communications involving sensitive or complex subjects. This work can form part of a wider programme or focus on a particular organisational issue, audience or priority.

Can you support sensitive or complex subjects?

Yes. We have significant experience communicating around subjects that require sensitivity, judgement and careful handling, including healthcare, bereavement, mental health, modern slavery, criminal justice, LGBTQ+ issues and other personal or lived experiences.

We can support strategy, messaging, media handling, stakeholder communications, reputation and the responsible involvement of people sharing their experiences. The approach is shaped around the subject, audiences and people involved, with careful consideration given to how stories and messages are communicated publicly.

Do you work alongside existing communications or marketing teams?

Yes. We can work alongside internal communications, marketing and leadership teams, as well as other agencies, designers, creatives, digital specialists and external partners.

Sometimes we provide additional senior counsel and capacity, elsewhere we lead a particular campaign, project or communications discipline. The aim is to complement the expertise already available, establish clear responsibilities and provide the additional support needed to move priorities forward.

Do you work with clients across the UK?

Yes. The Prominence Collective is based in Manchester and works with clients across the UK. Much of our strategic and ongoing work can be delivered remotely, while we also work in person where meetings, events, campaigns, content or other activity require it.

Our communications work is national in scope, with experience securing media, partnerships, stakeholder engagement and other opportunities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

How quickly can we expect to see results?

Timescales depend on the objective and type of work. A timely media opportunity can develop quickly, while building reputation, thought leadership, stakeholder relationships or a sustained organisational profile requires a longer-term approach.

We agree what success should look like at the outset and assess progress against the outcomes relevant to the brief. Depending on the work, that could include media coverage, audience engagement, stronger positioning, partnerships, stakeholder response, speaking opportunities, inbound enquiries or progress against wider campaign and organisational objectives.

How long do you typically work with clients?

We offer both ongoing retained support and defined project or campaign work. Longer-term relationships are particularly valuable where clients want consistent communications leadership, sustained profile development or support across several evolving priorities.

Projects and campaigns can instead be built around a specific objective and timeframe. The appropriate model depends on what you need to achieve, the capacity already available within your organisation and the level of strategic and delivery support required.

How much do you charge?

Our fees vary depending on the scope and complexity of the work, the level of support required, the communications disciplines involved and the time needed to deliver it. We work with clients through ongoing retainers as well as one-off campaigns, projects and defined pieces of strategic work.

Following an initial conversation, we recommend the approach that best reflects your objectives and provide a clear fee for the agreed scope of work. This means the level of investment is shaped around what you actually need, whether that is focused support in one area or a broader ongoing communications programme.

How do we get started?

The first step is a conversation about what you want to achieve, what communications activity you already have in place and where additional expertise could make the greatest difference. You do not need to arrive with a finished brief or know exactly which specialism you need.

From there, we can recommend an approach and agree the right scope, whether that means support in one specific area, several connected communications priorities, a defined campaign or project, or ongoing fractional communications leadership.
